ACLU: Protect student voting rights in Michigan. Take action today!

State Representative Rebekah Warren is introducing a bill in the House that would eliminate needless barriers to student voting.

Rogers' Law, adopted in 1999, was passed presumably to stop voter fraud. In reality, it has made it more difficult for college students to cast a legitimate ballot. The law requires that a voter's driver's license address be the same as on their voter registration card. So, a student who has kept their permanent home address on their license often learns - too late - that they must travel home to vote instead of being able to cast their ballot on campus.

Legislators should support a voting system that encourages the greatest level of participation possible. Students are more likely to vote if they can cast their ballot on campus, yet Michigan law continues to make this needlessly difficult.
